Chinese Governmental Subsidies for LED Lighting Industry

It is reported recently that Chinese government is focused on the financial support and tax incentives for LED lighting industry to achieve energy saving and carbon emission reduction goal.

In recent years, China has performed well on energy saving. Early in 2009 Chinese government has cooperated with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Global Environment Fund to carry out the phase-out project of incandescent bulbs. According to relevant statistics, from 2009 to 2013, nearly 650 million incandescent bulbs have been phased out in China, reaching up to 16 percent of the incandescent bulbs.

The next phase-out of the whole project is to concentrate on the transition towards more energy saving. “ China has fallen behind in the schedule to meet carbon reduction goals. We ought to continue to work hard.” said Xie Zhenhua, Vice President, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in the recent meeting.

LED, as the most promising energy resource, is regarded as the most energy saving source to replace traditional bulbs fluorescent lights. “ The PILESLAMP project is expected to save 4 billion kilowatt per hour of electricity and cut down 4.40 million metric tones of carbon dioxide.” said Xie during the project’s initiation ceremony.

Compared with conventional incandescent bulbs or old fluorescent tube and CFL, LED lighting is much more than 70-80% energy saving and even more eco-friendly exclusive of mercury, radiation and UV. Either outdoor lighting or indoor lighting, LEDs have realized the highest cost-effective.
